Dauber’s Story

Dauber came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

Dauber is a huge sweetheart who is a bit timid but loves soft beds, blankets, napping, following his foster mom all around the house, and napping on his comfy dog bed (yes we said napping twice!).  Dauber is the ultimate couch potato but don’t be fooled by his age as he is young at heart! Dauber has a very sweet loving disposition and just wants to be loved and surrounded by some peace and quiet. Dauber has yet to discover toys or bones as he would much rather settle in for a quick snooze.  He currently lives with several furry foster siblings and tolerates their rambunctious behavior quite well but seems overall ambivalent to them. He will on occasion follow the furry creatures around the house and follow their lead which is quite cute and good for his development into pet life!  Dauber is about the most easy-going, laid-back, lazy little boy there is.  Nothing seems to bother him but… Dauber can get a bit grumpy if the resident Frenchie picks a fight with him over food, Dauber will not start an issue but will not back down either. His mature personality doesn’t allow him to waste time and energy on being childlike and would rather not engage in that banter!  He is experiencing a big change and will need a patient and understanding family that is willing to offer him the space he needs to develop into pet life and to learn what is expected of him in the home. Dauber seems to get along well with every adult human he meets and has done very well with every other dog he meets. Although he can be a bit timid at first and get nervous around quick movements, he will warm up quickly with some patience and a yummy snack!  He has yet to be around small children but given his need to be in a calm environment, we feel Dauber would do best with teenagers who are calm, gentle, and dog-savvy or without children. As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to both other dogs and children are a must to ensure everyone is kept safe.

Dauber is doing amazingly well with potty training. He picked up on outside habits, thanks to his foster siblings!  Thanks to his neuter and a consistent schedule, Dauber has been nearly accident-free in his foster home for quite some time!  His adoptive family will need to be willing and able to keep him on a regular and consistent schedule for his continued potty training success.  Dauber will finish his business quickly so that he can find his way back inside to a soft comfy spot to snuggle.  He has also done great (actually perfect) with crate training and sleeps quietly (and accident-free) in his crate during the day when his foster family happens to leave the home. He will even seek his crate out to grab some quiet time or a quick nap.  Given Dauber loves soft comfy spots, he would love nothing more than to have his crate appointed with a soft crate pad and blanket. For his safety, we recommend that he keep a similar crating schedule when his humans are away from the home and/or he is left unsupervised so he is safe and secure while no one is home. He does not know danger and is still learning what is expected of him inside the home.

Medically, Dauber seems to be in good health. Dauber has been neutered, nares widened, tonsils removed, had a dental with extractions, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, is microchipped, and has been given the ok for adoption by our veterinarian! Dauber, due to his age, does have some weakening in his back legs; it is recommended he remain on a daily good quality joint supplement in perpetuity.

Dauber would do well in almost any type of home but a house (with or without a fenced yard )with little to no stairs will be preferred for him (as opposed to a multiple floor apartment style dwelling with many stairs).  His short little stubby legs are not made for staircases!  A ranch-style home would be ideal!  A ground-level apartment would be okay for Dauber as long as there is an adjacent quick to access fenced-in area where he could quickly do his outside business.  Overall, Dauber does not need a home with a fenced-in yard as he doesn’t wander and is quick to go out and come right back in but he MUST be secured with a leash and harness at all times while constantly supervised.   He would prefer a quiet and relaxed low-key family that has older children or no children at all.  We think he’d love to go to work with his new family as Dauber loves to be around his people as long the office environment is quiet.  You are not able to take him to work- not a problem!  He enjoys the comfort of his space and bed at home.  Dauber is quite the homebody; no big adventures for this fellow.  He is completely happy sleeping the day away in his kennel as long as his people can arrange a mid-day potty break for him!  Dauber does not need exercise and prefers not to partake in any!  He is coming out of his shell every single day!  He begs to be lifted onto the couch and insists on being close to her foster family.  Dauber will make an amazing companion to someone who wants to be absolutely adored by a furry creature!!  He makes everyone feel so special.

Dauber is a super sweet boy who is slowing down his lifestyle and is looking for a family to call his very own!  He is learning to trust, and accept affection and is searching for a patient family to teach him the spoiled ways of pet life!  This boy needs and deserves the softest place to land!!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
