Dallas’ Story
Dallas came into SNAFU Rescue via a commercial breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home to live the rest of his life as a cherished pet.
When Dallas first arrived in rescue he had a little shy and unsure side. He still displays his timid side when entering new environments but he does show a lot of interest in being constantly involved in social activities so we believe with time his confidence will grow! Most times his curiosity gets the better of him and does want to be close to his humans and other furry creatures and will often follow them all around. His overall, albeit inconsistently, shy personality is so cute and he is making improvements and gaining more and more confidence daily. Dallas is a smart, silly, energetic, playful Frenchie boy who loves extra play sessions with his furry friends, running the fenced-in yard, playing chase at the dog park, chewing on his favorite bones, and nap time. Dallas is all puppy all the time! He is most comfortable around his furry friends and his trusted humans and finds great comfort in their presence. You always know where Dallas is as he is pretty much glued to the ones he loves most. You can often find Dallas following his furry friends all around the fenced-in yard and exploring all the new smells of the outdoors. When he isn’t burning off some energy outside or at the dog park, you can find him grabbing his favorite benebone, yak chew, or bully stick and laying down for a quiet chew session with his foster siblings. Dallas will again pester the resident pups again for more play (digging through his toy bin and grabbing every toy to entice them) but if they don’t react he will find a soft comfy bed to lay on to grab a much-needed nap and snuggles up close to one of the dogs. As mentioned, he can be timid around new people and new places. Dallas is quite smart, and curious, and will take a short time to trust. He needs a little extra patience as he is still learning how to “dog” and will require some training in his adoptive home to help him gain some confidence. As mentioned, he currently lives with several furry foster siblings. Dallas made fast friends with each of them and is thriving in learning what it is like to be a pet! Although he absolutely adores his foster siblings he is still learning personal space but they don’t seem to mind it much at all! He matches well with dogs of any shape/size/gender as long as they can match his energy level and expect to have an instant best friend! He is experiencing a big transition and will need leadership, and positive correction to help him learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in his adoptive home. He is extremely smart, a fast learner, and wants to please his humans. Dallas seems to get along well with every human (big or small) he meets! In addition, Dallas, like a typical puppy, can get mouthy when playing and can offer some gentle puppy nibbles in addition to nibbling on items in the home that he is not supposed to (he is easily redirected). Because of this and his overall easy-going personality, his foster family believes he would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle children of any age, in a home with other balanced furry members (THIS IS A MUST FOR DALLAS). Dallas finds comfort around other dogs and we believe he would thrive in a home with other pets as he continues to learn to “dog”. As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs and supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.
Dallas is doing extremely well with potty training and is reported to be about 70% trained. He is picking up going outside as he is mimicking the other dogs in the home (and is offered positive reinforcement). As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to continue working on potty training with him, offering him a consistent schedule and working with him on a signal for potty. Dallas is crate trained but has some poop-accidents inside his crate on occasion. He has some crate anxiety as he wants to be with those he loves most. He will let out a very gentle whimper but doesn’t put up a fight. He does sleep in his crate at night and will do so quietly. Once Dallas can remain accident-free in his crate, we know that he would love to share his adoptive family’s bed at night. For his safety, we recommend a similar crating/sleeping schedule be kept for him as he doesn’t know danger.
Medically, Dallas seems to be in great health! He has been neutered, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Dallas does have some stress colitis which causes some loose stools. He is currently on a high-quality probiotic to help.
Dallas would do best in a home with a fenced-in yard due to his explorative nature, his skittish nature around anything new, and his love for the outdoors (as opposed to a multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling with no yard). He is a CHAMP with stairs so a home with multiple levels would be okay for him in addition to a ground-level apartment with an attached fenced-in area. He begs for exercise (loves the dog park) and would love a large yard to run and play with his furry friends! Although a fenced-in yard is preferred for his ongoing safety, Dallas would be okay without one if he is offered extra exercise and stimulation. Since Dallas is still working on potty training we don’t feel an office atmosphere would be good for him quite yet but hopefully soon as we believe he would thrive in an office. Ultimately Dallas is looking for an extremely patient and understanding family that can continue to work with him on his puppy tendencies, a family that is active and can include him in many of their weekly activities, and one with other balanced dogs to help him learn the joys of pet life and one with tons of comfy spots to nap after a long walk. He is such an amazing playful boy and has come so far already and just needs a little extra attention to learn the ways of being a loved and cherished pet. He is such a loving and sweet dog that needs some puppy outlets, love, attention, and direction.

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
