Cornelius’s Story

Cornelius came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

Meet Cornelius, the ultimate snuggle bug with a heart full of love and a playful spirit that shines! This happy, social, and affectionate Frenchie thrives on companionship—whether it’s with his humans or his furry friends. If you’re looking for a pup who wants to be right by your side (or curled up in your lap), Cornelius is your guy.

Cornelius is the kind of dog who just wants to be included in everything. He listens intently when you talk to him, locking eyes as if he truly understands every word. He adores being with his people and will happily curl up for a nap as long as he’s touching you or another dog. His calm, easygoing nature makes him a joy to have around, but don’t be fooled—when playtime rolls around, Cornelius has his brand of fun! He loves balls and has a hilarious habit of tossing one for himself and chasing after it. Sometimes, he’ll just run happy laps around the kitchen island, ball in mouth, until he tires himself out.

Cornelius is still figuring out the art of playing with other dogs, but he loves their company and takes cues from his furry friends. He is a true pack dog, happiest when surrounded by canine companions who can help guide him with good behaviors. He’s learning boundaries and will need continued guidance, especially when it comes to guarding his prized possessions (mostly toys; never food or people). While he believes every dog was meant to be his best friend, he’s still learning that not all dogs appreciate his enthusiasm.

This lovable, lighthearted boy is the perfect mix of playful and chill. He will get a burst of excitement for a good game of fetch, then be ready to snuggle up and relax. Cornelius would thrive in a home with another playful dog who can be his buddy and help him continue learning. His happy-go-lucky personality makes him a great fit for a family with dog-savvy children, and he would love to be part of the daily action in his forever home.

Cornelius will bring endless joy, laughter, and love to the lucky family who adopts him. Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must, and he should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe. If you’re looking for a devoted companion who will always be by your side (or in your lap), Cornelius is ready to be your new best friend!

Although Cornelius is the ultimate sweetheart, he does tend to eat small items if left unattended or left on the floor.  Due to this, Cornelius is not best suited for a family with small children who have small toys lying around.  Cornelius can play with toys that cannot be destroyed or are durable (balls, bones, and hard toys).  It is suspected that Cornelius does have a form of Pica.  Pica is a medical issue referring to a dog’s “craving” for a non-food item and subsequently eating said item.  He has a history of ingesting some items (plastic parts of toys, fabric of a soft toy, and bark in the mulch beds). This is hazardous behavior that could result in GI rupture or impaction that would require emergency surgery.  His adoptive family will need to ensure items are picked up and he must always be monitored to ensure he is not chewing or ingesting items he should not.

Cornelius is nearly fully potty training. He has been successful with a strict schedule and post neuter the marking has greatly improved!  As with all of our dogs, any adopter must be patient and willing to continue working on his potty-training success as he acclimates to his new home and surroundings. Cornelius would benefit from a consistent outside routine and a signal for potty.  Cornelius is not a huge fan of his crate but will begrudgingly go in when his foster family is away from the home.  He must be kept safe and secure when left unattended to avoid any ability to get his mouth on something he isn’t supposed to!  Since he is such a snuggle bug, we know Cornelius would eventually love to share a human bed at night with his adoptive family.

Medically, Cornelius is in great health! He is neutered, had a dental, nares widened, palate shortened, succulent removed, microchipped, heartworm tested, and updated on vaccinations and dewormings, and has been given a clean bill of physical health by our veterinarian!

Cornelius would do great in any type of home! He has mastered stairs so a multi-level home would be okay for him!  He is an overall adaptable dog but for his ongoing safety, a fully fenced-in yard is recommended but NOT required.  He could easily adapt to being walked a few times a day secured with a leash and harness.  This boy hates the cold so be prepared for quick outdoor jaunts!  If you don’t have a fenced yard and are willing to take him out for multiple walks throughout the day, he would be fine with that as well. A multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling might be okay for him as long as there is easy access to an outdoor space. Cornelius might like to go to the office with you if that’s allowed, as he is quite the clinger and would love to be near his human at all times!  He needs some basic dog training but with some consistent work, he would do just fine!  Part-time or full-time work-from-home or stay-at-home family member would be ideal for him!  He has been blessed with a foster dad that is home often and Cornelius NEVER lets him out of his sight.  He wants to be close and even will sit at their feet. If gone longer than 6hrs, we’re sure he will adapt well to sleeping part of the day away as long as he has a warm soft blanket and a furry pal, and his people can arrange for a mid-day potty break for him!  He is a playful yet lazy dog looking for a home that has a family to dote on him, can be included in most family outdoor activities, and can offer him the stimulation he desires, and lots of love and attention. He is an overall balanced, happy, playful, chill, cuddly soul who has adapted to pet life quickly!

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Cornelius, please submit an adoption application for him.

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
