Cookie’s Story
Cookie came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Meet Cookie – a dainty, darling little English Bulldog with a heart as soft as her squishy jowls. Cookie is the very definition of sweet and shy. Quiet and gentle by nature, she’s a calm companion who prefers the simple joys of life: soft places to nap, loving pets, and the comfort of her trusted humans nearby.
Though timid at first, Cookie settles in quickly and will happily curl up next to you for long cuddle sessions. She melts into affection, soaking up every gentle scratch and soft word, and loves being spoiled in the best ways—belly rubs, cozy blankets, and her favorite treats. Nap time is her favorite part of the day, and there’s not a couch, lap, or dog bed she won’t claim for one of her many daytime snoozes. She’s also a fan of “me time” and can often be found tucked away in her crate, nibbling contentedly on a bone and decompressing in peace.
As she’s grown more comfortable in her foster home, Cookie’s sweet personality has begun to blossom. You’ll catch glimpses of her playful, outgoing side when she’s romping around with her foster sister or happily chewing on a favorite toy. Her bursts of bulldog joy are short and sweet, followed by—of course—another nap.
Cookie came to rescue after spending her early years in a commercial breeding kennel, so the world outside that life is still new and a little overwhelming. But each day, she takes brave steps forward, slowly learning what it means to be cherished as a pet. Because of this, she’ll need a patient, understanding forever family willing to give her the time, love, and consistency she needs to continue building her confidence.
She currently lives with three furry foster siblings and does best with those who are respectful of her space. Cookie is most comfortable around smaller, calm dogs and would thrive with a gentle, passive pup who can show her the ropes of pet life—or she’d be equally content as your one-and-only spoiled princess. As always, slow introductions with other dogs are essential to set her up for success.
While Cookie hasn’t been around very young children, she’s shown no signs of aggression around humans or older, respectful kids. Because she sometimes expresses excitement with gentle nibbles, we recommend she be placed with dog-savvy children over the age of 8. She should always be supervised around children to ensure everyone stays safe and comfortable.
Cookie is a soft soul navigating a big new world, and she’s doing it with quiet grace. With the right family—one full of love, patience, and lots of cozy nap spots—Cookie will continue to blossom into the confident, happy dog she was always meant to be.
Cookie’s foster family happily reports she is making huge progress with potty training! Her adoptive family will need to be patient, willing, and able to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule for her continued potty-training success.
Cookie is fully crate trained and often retreats to her crate when feeling sleepy or if she is feeling shy in new environments. Since Cookie is a master snuggler, we know she would love to share her human bed at night. For her safety, we recommend a similar arrangement when her humans are away from the home and/or when she is left unsupervised, so she is safe and secure while no one is at home. Cookie does not know danger and is still learning how to be a pet.
Medically, Cookie is now in great health! She has been spayed, had a dental cleaning with extractions, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian. Cookie has dry eye and will require eye drops lifelong. She is a champ at receiving these and they are very affordable! She could also gain a few more pounds as she is on the petite side. Cookie does have a twisted front limb that does not bother her, causes any discomfort and does not require surgical intervention. She would greatly benefit from a good quality powder joint supplement like Dogzymes Phytoflex. Overall, Cookie is a very low-maintenance pup.
Cookie is slowly discovering the joys of the great outdoors—and it’s a heartwarming sight to see. Though she’s still learning to build confidence outside, she’s making steady progress and is beginning to catch on to leash manners. With her humans gently guiding her, Cookie is learning that walks can be fun and full of exciting smells and sights! Her ideal forever home would have a large, securely fenced backyard or even a bit of land, where she can safely explore at her own pace with her favorite people by her side.
Because of her past, Cookie can still be apprehensive about venturing outside on her own. She often prefers to be carried when it’s time to go out, and she’s not yet fully confident navigating new spaces. Her perfect family will be one that’s patient, kind, and committed to helping her feel safe and supported as she continues adjusting to life as a beloved pet.
While stairs were once a mystery to her, Cookie is becoming a little stair-master in training! We believe she could do very well in a multi-level or apartment-style home—especially one with minimal steps to the outside—once she’s settled into a routine. She’s a quiet little housemate (unless she’s politely requesting pets), and even her bark is soft and sweet.
Cookie would thrive in a calm, low-traffic home with someone who is around often. A work-from-home setup or a stay-at-home parent would be her dream come true, as she adores being part of her human’s daily life. She even has the makings of a perfect little office companion—once she’s mastered her potty routine. Cookie wants to be included in everything, whether it’s lounging at your feet during work calls, riding along on errands, or snuggling in for a midday break. She’s looking for a patient, nurturing family who will help her continue to grow with gentle encouragement and lots of love—and in return, she’ll be the most loyal little sidekick you could ever hope for.

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
