Cleo’s Story
Cleo came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Cleo is a charming French Bulldog whose personality is a delightful blend of spirited playfulness and affectionate companionship. Her expressive eyes and perky bat-like ears reflect her curiosity and readiness for adventure, while her compact, muscular build showcases her energetic nature. In moments of excitement, Cleo transforms into a lively bundle of energy, eagerly engaging in play sessions that highlight her agility and enthusiasm. She particularly enjoys the freedom to sprint around a fenced yard, her short legs propelling her with surprising speed as she chases after toys or playfully interacts with her canine companions. Her playful antics are not only entertaining but also a testament to her zest for life.
Despite her bursts of energy, Cleo’s true passion lies in the comfort of close companionship. She cherishes snuggling up on the couch with her trusted humans, finding immense joy in these quiet moments of togetherness. Her affectionate nature is evident as she nestles beside you, content and serene, embodying the quintessential lapdog who thrives on human connection. Initially, Cleo may exhibit a degree of reservation around new people and unfamiliar environments. This cautious demeanor leads her to stay close to familiar faces, seeking reassurance in their presence. However, with patience and gentle introductions, she gradually warms up, her initial shyness giving way to a friendly and engaging disposition. This transition reflects her adaptability and desire to form meaningful bonds, traits commonly associated with French Bulldogs.
Cleo’s inquisitive nature is particularly pronounced around other dogs. She approaches her canine counterparts with a curious and investigative demeanor, eager to engage and understand. This behavior underscores her social instincts and her desire to be part of a pack, making her well-suited for households with other dogs, provided they are tolerant of her nosy tendencies. When it comes to playthings, Cleo is still exploring her preferences. While she hasn’t yet selected a favorite toy, she does enjoy nibbling on bones, finding satisfaction in the activity. This exploratory behavior is indicative of her playful and curious nature, as she engages with her environment in search of enjoyment and stimulation.
Cleo’s interactions with children are marked by gentleness and kindness. She exhibits a patient demeanor, making her a suitable companion for families. However, her excitement can sometimes lead to enthusiastic jumping, which might inadvertently knock over smaller children. Therefore, a household with children aged five and older would be ideal, ensuring harmonious and safe interactions for all parties involved. Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and she should always be supervised to make sure both she and they are kept safe.
Cleo thrives in an environment that provides clear boundaries, structure, and routine. She flourishes under the guidance of a confident leader who can offer the direction and stability she seeks. This need for leadership reflects her desire for security and her willingness to follow, making her an excellent companion for someone who can provide consistent guidance. She is experiencing a big change and will need some patience and proper direction to help her acclimate to her adoptive home. Cleo is a loving and energetic French Bulldog whose personality encompasses a range of endearing traits. Her playful exuberance, coupled with her deep affection for close companionship, makes her a delightful addition to the right household. With her adaptability, gentle nature, and desire for structure, Cleo is poised to become a cherished member of a family that can meet her needs and appreciate the unique qualities she brings.
Cleo is still working on potty training. Her accidents are becoming fewer and further between and nearly fully trained! She is treat motivated; treats have proved to a be a helpful training tool. As with all of our dogs, any adopter must be patient and willing to continue working on her potty training success as she acclimates to her new home and surroundings. Cleo needs a consistent outside routine and a signal for potty. She is crate-trained and does not have any accidents in her crate. Even though the crate is NOT her favorite, she begrudgingly sleeps quietly when her foster family happens to be away from the home and rests her little head on a comfy blanket. She currently sleeps in a crate on the floor near her foster family’s bed in the evening and is okay doing so but we know Cleo would enjoy sharing a bed with her adoptive family at night as this little cuddle bug finds comfort in those she trusts and loves most.
Medically, Cleo is in good health! She has been spayed, a dental, microchipped, heartworm tested, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian!
Cleo would do great in any type of home! She has mastered the stairs so a multi-level home would be okay for her. She would do best in a home with a fully fenced-in yard as she does love to run around and play in the backyard. For her ongoing safety a fenced-in yard would be the best fit for her activity level and desire to burn off energy!. A shared-walled living arrangement could be okay for Cleo as she is an overall quiet dog but given her distaste entering the crate it could bother her share-walled neighbors. Cleo is quite a people’s Frenchie; we think she would love to go to work with her new family if they wanted to take her with them to the office. She would need some time to adjust quickly to a workspace as sometimes her curiosity gets the better of her, but once acclimated she would flirt her way into the hearts of all those in the office. If her people are not able to take her to work with them, no problem at all – she would much rather have a part-time or full-time stay-at-home, work-from-home family member. Cleo would thrive in an overall active home where all her family members would be involved in her everyday care. She is an overall happy, playful soul who thrives with a routine and has adapted to pet life quickly! She is very eager to please and just wants to be around her family at all times! She is an adaptable pup that adores her people, patrolling the backyard, couch time, close to her humans, and Frenchie-suited walks. She would be a great dog for a family with children but is not a requirement. Cleo is such a joy and is an overall sweetheart of a girl who loves treats as much as her people!

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
