Chubs’s Story

Chubs came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. His breeder wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.

Chubs is a sweet, happy, and friendly Frenchie boy.  He is learning more and more as he adjusts to being in a home and has done wonderfully learning from the other dogs and picking up the household’s daily routine. He is very much a “bull in a China Shop” and will barrel into whatever he wants to explore.  He has accidentally knocked over a TV tray table and a few houseplants in his explorations. He is very “puppy”-like in the sense that he jumps on things and chews on things that he shouldn’t.  He takes correction and redirection very well but he still needs a family that will be patient with him and monitor him while he learns all of the expectations of being a pet. Chubs enjoys being outdoors if his family is outside with him.  He is learning to play with toys and has learned to play keep away from his Boston Terrier fur-sister (which she loves).  He usually likes the toys the other dogs are playing with best, but will sometimes go to the toybox and pick out a good bone or toy to chew on.   Chubs’ favorite pastime is napping.  Chubs is not picky and will grab any soft bed, couch, blanket, or sometimes just the bare floor when he needs a nap. He has learned how to go up the dog stairs that lead to the couch very quickly, but he is still learning that he needs to use them when going down, too.  If he gets onto the couch, he will need to be monitored so that he isn’t jumping off of the couch and potentially hurting his back or neck.  He is very much a shadow dog; he loves to follow his people around to see what they’re doing and would be happy to snuggle up for hours on end next to his human or family.  When you pick him up, he just melts into your arms for pets and snuggles.  At 28lbs, he is deceptively heavy for his short, squat body with his thick, short little legs! Chubs is usually great with other dogs and is the very best snuggle bug to both his humans and furry friends when their favorite TV shows are on.  So far, he hasn’t met another dog that he hasn’t gotten along with.  His foster brother, Bilbo, has attempted to go after him and Chubs is reliable to stand still if there is dog commotion or correction and quite simply ignores or avoids confrontation.  He is a lover, not a fighter! Overall, he’s a very “go with the flow”, easy-going, content kind of dude. He loves his foster mom and all the comforts his foster home allows him.  What he wants more than anything is a comfortable and calm home where his furever family will dote on him.  He is a stage 5 clinger if allowed to be, but will respect his people’s space if they are busy and tell him no.  He is still learning what “no” means, but he is learning more and more each day.  Chubs has a very lovable and docile temperament, and we feel he will do perfectly well with other calm, gentle dogs and with dog-savvy, gentle, respectful children of any age. He has not been exposed to cats while in foster care or in his previous home, so we can not speak to how he would do with cats.  Slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and he should always be supervised to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Chubs is still working on potty training and while he is doing wonderfully with learning to go outside and potty and his accidents are becoming fewer and further between, he will still occasionally mark inside from time to time and must be watched/supervised when out and about.  His foster family is hopeful that now that he has been neutered, this will continue to lessen and subside as time goes on.  As with all of our dogs, any adopter must be patient and willing to continue working on his potty-training success as he acclimates to his new home and surroundings. Chubs, as with all dogs, needs a consistent schedule and routine for potty breaks.  He is kenneled while his foster mom is at work, and during the night, and he will happily go into his kennel for a tasty treat! He has never had an accident in his kennel thus far, and he doesn’t mind his kennel at all.  He will even go in there to take a nap on his own if the door is left open.  He must be confined to his kennel or a safe space when he is left unsupervised, as he is still learning what is okay to chew on and what isn’t okay to chew on when he is out and about in the house.

Medically, Chubs is in great health!  When he entered his foster home, he wasn’t neutered, had terrible teeth, and needed a little TLC with his skin/allergies.  As with many Frenchies, he may have slight allergies and that should be monitored in his adoptive home.  He would benefit from a daily OTC allergy pill to keep this environmental alleriges at bay.  He has been neutered, had a dental with extractions, microchipped, heartworm tested, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian!

Chubs would do great in almost any type of home! A fenced yard isn’t required for him but is always preferred as he is not used to pottying while on a leash at all, and for his ongoing safety, since he loves to explore the yard and smell all the smells.  A multiple-floor apartment-style dwelling will probably not be ideal for him unless it’s a bottom-floor apartment with an adjacent yard for easy-access potty breaks. He can do stairs, but his legs are so short that multiple flights of stairs would likely not be ideal for him unless there was an elevator and a pet stroller type of situation for him.   Chubs might like to go to the office with you if that’s allowed. He’s a very docile and adaptable guy, so he seems to be fine wherever his human is.  If you work from home, that’s even better! Chubs would love nothing more than to hang out with his family all day, every day, but if his family is not able to work from home, that’s fine too! He has adapted well to sleeping the day away in his kennel, as long as he has a warm, soft blanket, and his people can arrange for a mid-day potty break for him!  He is a pretty calm, happy, older gentleman looking for a home that has a lot of love, attention, and a lap to share with him. Chubs is technically a “senior”, but age is just a number, and he has a lot of life to live!

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Chubs, please submit an adoption application for him!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
