Cesar’s Story

Cesar was surrendered to the SNAFU rescue to no fault of his own. His beloved owner passed away and therefore Cesar was looking for a place to help him find a loving forever home.

Cesar is a super relaxed, social, very chill, slow, laid-back, stubborn Bulldogge who adores his people more than anything. Be ready for lazy days, many naps throughout the day, and a dog who follows you around like your shadow because he just loves to hang out and be near his people at all times! Yes, Cesar is 100% a velcro dog. Cesar desperately wants to please his people but is as stubborn as they come when he doesn’t want to do something that is being asked of him.

When Cesar isn’t glued to his humans you can find him asking for belly rubs, a yummy chew toy filled with peanut butter, or a towel to quietly suckle away on to pass the time. After enjoying a belly rub session, he is looking for a comfy place to lay his head for one of his many naps throughout the day. Cesar has several furry foster siblings in his foster home. He enjoys friendly, easy-going dogs that are aloof to his presence. Cesar will defend his honor if he feels threatened or bullied.  Cesar redirects VERY easily with a firm verbal warning so any tiffs can be immediately nipped in the bud.  He isn’t interested in engaging them in any kind of socialization or play but can peacefully coexist.

Cesar is truly the pawfect dog in his foster home…His one weakness is being coerced into something he isn’t a fan of. He doesn’t like to be guided using his collar rather he prefers gentle butt taps for guidance. Bath time is NOT his favorite time but that is improving as trust grows. He can be quite the comedian when he needs his drooly chin wiped; this super slow dog will speed up and rip the towel out of the hands of those trying to wipe him and run away! It is about the funniest thing! His foster family is working with him in gaining trust and albeit a slow process, he is improving!

Cesar is learning to be a gentleman, learning to take direction, and making vast improvements every day! He is experiencing a big transition and will need firm leadership, patience, and consistent correction to help him learn proper dog behavior, learn proper dog manners, and know what is expected in his adoptive home. Although Cesar needs some coaxing and does push the limits with his stubborn ways, he does look to his leader for direction. Positive reinforcement and a lot of praise when positive behavior is present have worked wonders for Cesar! He seems to get along well with every adult human he meets!  Due to his overall large Bulldogge stature, his foster family believes he would be best in a home with dog-savvy, gentle, children 14 years or older. He would do great in a home with other balanced, passive dogs or equally as well as an only pet. He honestly just prefers to be with his favorite human at all times! As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs AND supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both he and they are kept safe.

Cesar is 100% potty trained. He initially had a few accidents in his foster home but once he acclimated the accidents stopped. He isn’t a big fan of his crate and is offered a yummy incentive to guide him in. He would much rather have free roam in a dog-safe space but due to the other pups in his foster home is unable to be afforded this luxury. We believe with time, he will be able to be trusted out of his crate in his adoptive home. We recommend that a similar arrangement is kept for him. 

Medically, Cesar seems to be in good health!  He has been neutered, nares widened, had dental (with extractions), updated on vaccinations/dewormings, microchipped and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! Cesar does suffer form joint pain and will require to be kept on a high quality joint supplement in addition to pain medications when his arthritis flares.

Cesar would do well in a home with a yard, a family that can spend a lot of time with him and a home with little to no stairs (due to his arthritis and his clumsy nature). A house with a fenced yard is not required for Cesar but should be always kept leashed with a harness for his ongoing safety (his not at all a fast runner). A shared-wall home is not ideal for Cesar as he does bark at strange noises that could upset the neighbors. We don’t think he’d be a good office dog (although he loves a good car ride) as he is a stay-at-home kind of a guy. He would much prefer a full or part-time work from home or stay at home parent as he really adores his humans! Cesar is okay to sleep a few hours of the day away in his favorite room as long as he has a comfy blanket, his plush bed as long as his people don’t leave him for too long.

Cesar is looking for a calm household where he gets naps, belly rubs and a ton of time with those he loves the most. He is just about the sweetest, most simple boy looking to spend his retirement years in a stable, loving environment. He promises to be the best and most loyal companion one can find!
