Cathy’s Story
Cathy came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Cathy is a sweet, lazy, shy, quiet little Frenchie girl who loves to be cuddled and snuggled. She is timid by nature but can settle down very quickly to cuddle her trusted person. Cathy will display her outgoing side when she is comfortable by playing with her foster sister or chewing on a bone. She seeks attention and prefers to be everywhere and anywhere her foster family is. She has bursts of energy and excitement when she is comfortable but is reserved around new people and in new situations. Nap time is her favorite time! There is not a couch or lap that Cathy won’t lay on during her many daily naps or even when tuning into her favorite TV shows. She will even curl up in her crate with her favorite bone nibbling away when feeling sleepy and needing some time alone.
When Cathy first arrived at the rescue, she was very timid and reserved. She lived most of her life in a commercial breeding kennel and is slowly learning to live her life as a cherished pet. Although she is slowly gaining confidence and becoming more comfortable every day outside of the breeding life, it is important to remember that she is dealing with a big transition and as such will need a patient and understanding family. She currently lives with three furry foster siblings. She gets along well with her furry friend but does like a dog that respects her space. Cathy gravitates towards smaller dogs and would thrive with a small furry pal to help her learn the ways of pet life! She is still learning the ways of pet life and finds comfort in being with her humans and because of this, we feel she would thrive and be very happy in a home as an only pet or one with a gentle, passive, and balanced smaller dog. As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs in the household are a must. Although she has not been around very young children, Cathy has not shown any aggression towards humans or middle school-aged children but due to her overall timid nature and her desire to offer nibbles when excited, we feel she would do just best around dog-savvy, respectful children over the age of 8. She has been known to jump up in excitement, so she may accidentally knock over younger children. She should always be supervised when she is around children to make sure both she and they are kept safe.
Cathy’s foster family happily reports she is making huge progress with potty training! Her adoptive family will need to be patient, willing, and able to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule for her continued potty-training success. Cathy is fully crate trained (without accidents) and often retreats to her crate when feeling sleepy or if she is feeling shy in new environments. Since Cathy is a master snuggler, we know she would love to share her human bed at night. For her safety, we recommend a similar arrangement when her humans are away from the home and/or when she is left unsupervised, so she is safe and secure while no one is at home. Cathy does not know danger and is still learning how to be a pet.
Medically, Cathy is now in great health! She has been spayed, had a dental cleaning, nares widened, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian.
Overall Cathy is a very low-maintenance pup. Cathy loves to explore outside and is quickly catching on to leash manners! Cathy would love a home with a big backyard or land to explore with her humans in tow! Cathy would do well in any type of home. She’s becoming a master of stairs! We also feel that Cathy would be a good pet for a multiple-floor apartment-style home as she is typically a quiet dog (unless she is demanding pets, but her bark is even quiet.) Work from home or a stay-at-home parent? Cathy would absolutely love that! She also would be a great candidate to take to the office (once she has perfected potty training). She is looking for a patient family to call her very own, one that is willing to work with her to learn how to “pet”, one with an overall calm, quiet lifestyle, and one that is home often to offer her unlimited snuggles. Cathy loves nothing more than to be included in any and all human activities; she is a great ride-along companion!

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
