Buttercup’s Story

Buttercup came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.

Meet Buttercup — your tiny tornado of joy, mischief, and nonstop fun 💛

Buttercup is a lively, energetic little Frenchie who lives life at full speed. She’s the definition of a naughty good girl — always on the move, always up to something, and always keeping you laughing. Zoomies? Absolutely. Playtime? Her favorite. Quiet lounging? Only if she’s exhausted… and even then, she’d probably rather be chewing a bone.

This girl loves to play. Buttercup’s ideal day includes shredding toys like it’s her personal mission, gnawing happily on bones, and engaging in her favorite games: tug-of-war, chase, and full-on puppy wrestling. She’s surprisingly athletic and thrives on activity, stimulation, and interaction. If you’re looking for a Frenchie who breaks the “couch potato” stereotype, Buttercup is your girl.

Buttercup is wonderfully dog-social and truly shines with canine companionship. She adores other dogs—especially fellow small dogs—and would really benefit from having one playful, compatible dog in the home. A full pack might be overwhelming for her, but one confident playmate? Perfect. Her current favorite buddy is a small Boston Terrier, and watching her play is pure joy. She plays hard, wrestles enthusiastically, and clearly loves having a friend who can keep up.

While Buttercup will tolerate cuddles and snuggles, they’re not her top priority. She’s much more interested in action, adventure, and toys she can proudly destroy. Affection happens on her terms—usually after a long day of play when she’s finally ready to recharge. She shows love through playfulness, enthusiasm, and choosing to be near her people rather than glued to their laps.

Buttercup has had limited exposure to cats. She hasn’t shown aggression, but she may bark when she sees one from her crate, likely out of curiosity and excitement. Because her true reaction is still unknown, a cat-free home or a very experienced, structured introduction would be best.

She has not yet been kid-tested. Given her high energy and playful (sometimes rowdy) style, older, dog-savvy children or an adult-only home may be the best fit—at least until more is known about her comfort level.

Buttercup is the kind of dog who brings life into a home. She’s funny, busy, curious, and full of personality. She doesn’t just exist in a space—she occupies it with joy, motion, and a constant sense that something fun might happen next.

If you’re looking for an active, playful companion who would thrive with another dog, loves toys and bones with her whole heart, and will keep you smiling with her antics, Buttercup may be your perfect match. She’s ready for a home that embraces her energy, celebrates her spunky spirit, and loves her exactly as she is 💛🐾

Buttercup is making great progress with her potty training and continues to improve every day. She is currently partially potty trained and does best with a consistent routine, regular potty breaks, and supervision when she’s out of her crate. As long as she’s given opportunities to go out every few hours and kept on a schedule, she does well — she’s learning what’s expected and building good habits.

Poop training is still a work in progress, especially with the recent frigid temperatures, which have made outdoor potty breaks extra challenging (cold paws are not her favorite!). With warmer weather, patience, and continued consistency, she’s expected to keep improving in this area.

Crate training is one of Buttercup’s strengths. She does wonderfully in her crate and treats it as her safe, cozy personal space. She keeps it clean and dry, settles calmly, and handles crate time like a champ — whether it’s overnight or when her humans are away. It’s a space where she feels secure and comfortable, and she relaxes beautifully there.

Buttercup will thrive with a family that offers structure, routine, and positive reinforcement. She’s smart, adaptable, and eager to keep learning — and with a patient, committed home, she has all the potential to become a wonderfully reliable, well-mannered companion.

Medically, Buttercup seems to be in great health!  She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian! She does suffer from those pesky seasonal allergies!  A daily OTC allergy pill helps keep her allergies at bay in addition to cytopoint injections during high allergy months.

Buttercup is a lively, spirited little Frenchie girl who’s ready to bring laughter, energy, and nonstop fun to her forever home. She’s confident in her own way, endlessly playful, and full of personality—the kind of dog who keeps life interesting just by being herself. Buttercup is adaptable and easygoing at heart, making her a great fit for a variety of home types, from apartments to townhomes to single-family houses.

What really helps Buttercup thrive is routine and patience. She picks up on household rhythms quickly and does best when she knows what’s coming next—playtime, crate time, potty breaks, and meals. While she’s still learning some everyday skills, she approaches life with curiosity rather than fear, and she’s eager to figure things out with the right guidance.

Stairs are currently a mental puzzle for Buttercup. She can go down a few just fine, but going up? She’s pretty convinced that’s an impossible task. It’s not fear—it’s uncertainty—and with time, encouragement, and practice, she may very well conquer them. Until then, she’s more than happy to live in a home with minimal stairs or to be scooped up and carried (she may be compact, but she’s definitely a sturdy little “beefcake”).

Leash walking is another skill Buttercup hasn’t mastered yet, so a home with a fenced yard would make life easiest (and safest) while she continues learning. She’s a smart girl and capable of learning—it just takes a little patience and consistency.  A shared-walled dwelling would suit Buttercup BUT a ground-level unit with an adjacent fenced-in area would set her up for the most success.

Outside is where Buttercup’s turbo mode truly shines. She loves to run, play, explore, and burn off energy with zoomies and games. She’s independent enough to entertain herself, but she truly comes alive when she has another dog to play with. Buttercup absolutely adores other dogs and would thrive with at least one friendly, playful canine companion. One great playmate is ideal—someone to wrestle with, chase, and share her days with.

Buttercup would also be a fun and entertaining office companion. She enjoys being included in daily life and would love tagging along to work, hanging out nearby, and soaking in the activity around her. With appropriate breaks for potty and play, she has the personality to fit right into a workplace environment.

At her core, Buttercup wants connection and engagement. She may not be a full-time cuddler, but she loves being part of the action—playing nearby, following her people around, or happily chewing a bone while the household buzzes around her. She’s at her best in a home that appreciates her energy, laughs at her quirks, and supports her as she continues learning.

Buttercup is a joyful, funny, and endearing little soul who doesn’t need perfection—just love, patience, and a home that embraces her playful spirit. With at least one devoted human, ideally two, and a great canine playmate by her side, she’s ready to thrive and bring endless smiles to the family lucky enough to call her their own 🐾💛

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Buttercup, please submit an adoption application for her today!!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
