Becky’s Story
Becky came into the SNAFU Rescue via a private party surrender. Her owner wanted her to receive a much-needed surgery to correct her luxating patellas and to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet living out her life as happy as she can be!
Becky is a sweet and confident little Frenchie girl who loves to check out the happenings of her busy foster house from the comfort of her favorite spots. Becky is a calm and quiet companion. She prefers lounging on the couch or in bed, often enjoying her favorite chew toys like Nylabones and bully sticks. Confident yet low-key, Becky rarely barks or makes noise, speaking mostly through her expressive eyes. When she wants attention, she’ll gently look at you until you come to her. Becky is very mild-mannered and seems to expect the same from others around her, whether people or dogs. Unlike more energetic dogs, Becky doesn’t get excited when people come to the door. She simply stays where she is, relaxed and observing the situation calmly. She enjoys quiet moments with her humans and doesn’t need constant interaction. Becky’s overall relaxed nature is most prevalent when those around her are acting in a wild, and in her mind, ridiculous fashion! She watches the WrestleMania sessions from a distance and would never dream of participating! Becky tolerates other dogs but doesn’t seek out play or interaction with them. She prefers her personal space, and while she’ll coexist with other dogs, she doesn’t engage in roughhousing or wrestling. Becky can enjoy walks, but she isn’t a fan of hot weather and prefers relaxing indoors or in cooler temperatures with her bone nibbling away!
While Becky hasn’t been around children, her gentle and laid-back nature suggests she could do well with respectful, calm kids who understand her need for space. She isn’t interested in being roughhoused or overly fussed over but enjoys soft pets and quiet companionship. Becky has shown some mild resource guarding behaviors, particularly over her bones or special treats. She will growl to warn other dogs to stay away from her space or possessions but has not been aggressive beyond that. With supervision and continued training, Becky responds to corrections and can adjust her behavior. Becky would thrive in a calm and peaceful home, perhaps with another passive, balanced, and calm dog who respects her space but that isn’t necessary. Becky definitely can peacefully coexist with other dogs but she is not looking for a playmate in her adoptive home. She enjoys affection but waits for her human to initiate contact, making her an independent yet loving companion. She graciously will lay next to her loving foster mom accepting soft pets and relaxation. Becky’s ideal environment is one with minimal chaos, and while she loves to be around people, she does not seek constant attention. As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs in the household are a must.
Becky’s foster family reports she is still working on potty training but she’s doing very well. She continues to make progress with a strict and routine outside schedule but still will have accidents since she has not yet learned a signal for potty. It has been observed during her surgery recovery that Becky most likely was potty pad trained in her previous home which is not helping her overall success. Her adoptive family will need to be patient, willing, and able to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule for her continued potty-training success and help Becky find a signal when she needs to go outside. Becky is crate-trained (without accidents) and finds comfort in her safe space. She graciously enters her crate for a yummy snack and sleeps quietly until her foster mom arrives home. Once Becky hears the door open, she becomes VERY vocal as she wants out immediately! Once Becky has exited her crate, she demands recognition and adoration; this is the only time Becky desires to be fully acknowledged! Becky currently shares a human bed (comfortably and successfully with all the resident pups) so we know she would love to continue to share her human bed at night. For her safety, we recommend a similar arrangement when her humans are away from the home and/or when she is left unsupervised, so she is safe and secure while no one is at home.
Medically, Becky seems to be in great health. She has been spayed, has had her tonsils removed, palate shortened, a bilateral luxating patella surgery, is updated on vaccinations/dewormings, is heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian.
Becky would do well in almost any type of home but would do best in a house with a fenced yard since she is working on perfecting potty training. She does not like being outside much so a fully fenced-in yard is not required for her as she spends as little time outside as possible unless the weather is perfect and she will sun her little buns for a few minutes. Becky would need to be secured safely with a harness and leash if a fenced-in yard is not available. Becky will use a few stairs so a home with a few stairs would be okay for her. Overall, she would not be a good candidate for apartment living unless it was a ground-level apartment with an adjacent fenced-in yard as going up and down stairs while she is still potty training would prohibit her success. Becky is an ideal dog for a family that works outside the home. She doesn’t desire constant attention or interaction so as long as she is offered a midday potty break, Becky is content napping the day away as long as she has a comfy, soft blanket and a safe bone to keep her occupied. She may be a candidate to take to work as she’s a pretty quiet and laid-back girl who is not startled at all by loud noises. Becky would happily curl up in a soft bed and snooze the day away as long as she had a few of her favorite bones to keep her company during the boring conference calls! Ultimately, Becky is looking for a patient family to call her very own, one that has an overall calm, quiet lifestyle, and one that is home often in the evening hours if her family works outside the home. She is not interested in the hustle and bustle of a busy family and prefers lounging on the couch with her favorite people in the evening hours. Short walks, calm evenings, relaxing time on a cool patio, and a human(s) to spoil her rotten are all that this sweet girl needs! This little darling will make a forever loyal and loving companion.

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
