Athena’s Story

Athena came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.

Athena is a charming and affectionate French Bulldog with a personality that will light up any home. She is happiest when she’s close to her favorite humans, whether that’s lounging by your side or snuggling on the couch. Athena has a unique way of showing her joy—she’ll dance and wobble with excitement when people come through the door or when she finishes pottying, a darling display that’s guaranteed to make you smile.

Athena adores people and enjoys the company of other dogs, especially those her size or smaller. She thrives in the presence of a furry companion and loves to observe and emulate her canine pals, whether it’s keeping an eye on the neighborhood from the window or joining in on fun adventures. Her playful side shines when she discovers toys—fetch is her new favorite game! She especially loves being rewarded with a licki mat filled with her favorite healthy snacks, making her playtime even more rewarding.

Though Athena is a master snuggler and thrives on affection, she also has a gentle and adaptable nature. She gets along wonderfully with kids aged 6–16 and would do well in a home with a loving family ready to shower her with attention and cuddles. While she’s never shown a prey drive in her current environment, her safety comes first, so she will not be placed in a home with small animals like rabbits, birds, hamsters cats or chickens etc.

Athena’s quiet observation skills and eagerness to learn make her an easy addition to a structured environment. She takes cues from her surroundings, adapting quickly to the dynamics of her home. Whether she’s lounging by the window with a furry pal or playing fetch in the yard, Athena is a loving and low-maintenance companion who will bring warmth and joy to her forever family.

Athena would do well in just about any home, whether with a family, a single person, or even school-aged children who enjoy spending time with her. As long as she has a comfortable spot to rest, some squeaky toys to play with, a furry pal, and a family to love, she will be a happy, content dog. Whether it’s lounging on the couch, exploring the outdoors, or learning new tricks, Athena is the perfect companion for someone seeking a loving, gentle, and easygoing dog who is full of affection. This giant love bug is ready to meet her forever family and bring her signature blend of calm, charm, and endless snuggles into their lives. As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs in the household are a must.  Athena would love to have human siblings in her furever home, and even more, hands to pet her with, but she would do well in a home without children as well. Needless to say, this precious sweetheart is nearly pawfect and will thrive in most types of homes, as long as she has someone to love and cherish her.

Athena’s foster family happily reports she is still working on potty training and is nearly potty trained.  She continues to make progress with a strict and routine outside schedule. It has helped her to have other furry friends for her to follow and mimic desired behaviors like going potty outside and sitting calmly when waiting for food or a snack. Her adoptive family will need to be patient, willing, and able to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule for her continued potty-training success.  Athena is fully crate-trained (without accidents).  She will retreat to her crate when she is feeling overwhelmed.  Athena is trusted in a small gated space during the day when her human is away at work.  She overall does well with minimal accidents. Since Athena is a master snuggler, we know she would love to continue to share her human bed at night. For her safety, we recommend a similar arrangement when her humans are away from the home and/or when she is left unsupervised, so she is safe and secure while no one is at home. Athena does not know danger and is still learning how to be a pet.

Medically, Athena seems to be in great health. She has been spayed, an inverted tail pocket surgically fixed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian. She does suffer from those pesky Frenchie allergies and will need a daily OTC allergy med in addition to a cytopoint injection during high allergy months.

Athena is very adaptable, and we think she would do well in almost any type of home, but would do best in a house with a fenced yard since she is working on perfecting potty training and does not know danger.  She loves to explore all the smells and roam about and a fenced-in yard would offer her safety and security.  Athena has perfectly mastered going up and down stairs, so a multi-level home or apartment would be okay for her.  In an apartment setting, ideally, a nearby fenced-in yard would be best as she finalizes the art of potty training. She is an overall quiet pup, so a share-walled home is okay for her!  Part-time or Full-time work from home or a stay-at-home parent? Athena would absolutely love that!  She truly just wants to be near her loved ones every minute of every day.  She also would be a great candidate to take to the office. All she needs is a cozy bed and her favorite human! She is looking for a quiet, low-chaos, patient family to call her very own, one that is willing to work with her to learn how to “pet”, one with an overall desire to include their pet into all facets of their lifestyle, and one that is home often to offer her unlimited snuggles, offer unlimited pets and couch time. Athena loves nothing more than the joys and comforts petlife has to offer!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
