Ashley’s Story
Ashley came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Ashley is a sweet yet adorably spicy little Frenchie girl who loves to be cuddled and snuggled. She is slightly reserved by nature but is figuring out how to be less afraid and more confident. Once she is comfortable she will be vocal when displeased and is quick to ask for what she desires. Ashley is equal parts calm and energetic but her energizer bunny side is often on display. She is very quick to cuddle her trusted person and loves to play fetch. Ashley will display her outgoing side when she is comfortable by following all the humans “demanding” attention or by playing with her furry foster brothers. Ashley seeks human touch and prefers to be everywhere and anywhere her foster family is, especially her foster mom and the children in the home. The children seem to boost her confidence. She gravitates heavily toward calm children who sit down to pet her. She has bursts of energy and excitement but is also very happy to cuddle and take it easy. Nap time is her favorite time! Ashley will lay on her favorite dog bed, or even go in her cozy kennel to chill out. Ashley loves to play fetch with her chuck-it ball and is always game for playtime with her furry foster brothers. Ashley is still very fearful of strangers, especially men, and more so in her foster home. She will need to continue to work on this fear of men and needs a forever family who will understand her fear and work with her to overcome it and gain confidence and calmness. She will follow her furry pack around, so she is sure to not miss anything important going on. She absolutely adores other dogs of all sizes and little humans. When Ashley first arrived at the rescue, she was calm and subdued but has been very dog-savvy from day one. She has shown fear of men, but with work has been doing better with confidence and letting go of the fear. She does revert to her crate when scared, so her family will need to work with her on that, and not let her hide and continue to be fearful. She lived most of her life in a commercial breeding kennel and is slowly learning to live her life as a cherished pet. Overall, she’s mastering it VERY quickly though. Although she is slowly gaining confidence and becoming more comfortable every day, it is important to remember that she is dealing with a big transition and as such will need a patient and understanding family. She currently lives with a furry foster pack of 2 and both are about 60 lbs. She gets along well with all her furry friends. She likes to follow their lead to investigate and is comfortable being next to them for snuggle time on their human’s lap. Ashley would do well with a furry pal to help her learn the ways of pet and help her with her confidence. She is still learning the ways of pet life, like how to get on the couch or go down the stairs but when it comes to snuggles, she is on her way to being a champ. As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs in the household are a must. She has been around children of all ages and seems to find great comfort being around them. Ashley would love to have human siblings in her furever home, even more hands to pet her with. Needless to say, this precious sweetheart is well on her way to mastering pet life but will need her forever family’s continued help with gaining comfort and confidence in stressful situations.
Ashley’s foster family happily reports she is nearly potty trained! She continues to make progress with a strict and routine outside schedule. It has helped her to have other furry friends for her to follow and mimic desired behaviors like going potty outside and sitting calmly when waiting for food or a snack. Her adoptive family will need to be patient, willing, and able to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule for her continued potty-training success. Currently, Ashley is let out every hour when out of her crate, so she has ample time to learn where she’s supposed to go potty. Ashley is fully crate trained (without accidents) and still retreats to her crate on occasion when feeling anxious and fearful, so her family will need to continue desensitizing her to those scary things. Since Ashley is a master snuggler once she’s comfortable, we know she would love to share her human’s bed at night once she’s fully potty trained and confident in her new home. In her foster home, she has slept in her crate overnight. For her safety, we recommend a similar arrangement when her humans are away from the home and/or when she is left unsupervised, so she is safe and secure while no one is at home. Ashley does not know danger and is still learning how to be a pet.
Medically, Ashley seems to be in great health. Her foster family has noticed that she may not see great at night, as she seems to focus on shadows rather than the objects making the shadows, but it has not caused her any issues. She had a small growth of scar tissue removed from her eye and is missing a few back teeth. She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian.
Ashley is very adaptable, and we think she would do well in almost any type of home but would do best in a house with a fenced yard since she is working on perfecting potty training and does not know danger. Her family would need to be committed to many leash walks and exercise if they have a home without a fenced-in yard. Ashley has mastered going upstairs, but her foster family says she’s not quite gotten the going down part, so she is currently carried down steps. With the use of treats (she’s VERY treat-motivated) her foster family knows she’ll get the hang of stairs. Work from home or a stay-at-home parent? Ashley would absolutely love that! She may never be a candidate to take to work due to her fear of new situations and men. She is looking for a patient family to call her very own, one that is willing to work with her to learn how to “pet”, one with an overall calm, quiet lifestyle, and one that is home often to offer her unlimited snuggles and potty breaks. Ashley would be a great ride-along companion as well and has been very relaxed on car rides!

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
