Ahsoka’s Story
Ahsoka came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Ahsoka, aka Baby Bear and Meat Mittens, is a very social, lighthearted, and playful English bulldog who loves getting all the loves from her favorite humans. Ahsoka will follow her favorite person around the house before deciding to grab a comfy dog bed and nibble away on her favorite bone (the bones are all her favorite!) She will chew on her bones for a long while before she wears herself out and quickly falls into a long and deep English bulldog snooze. After a long snooze, Ahsoka is once again grabbing a few of her favorite chews (bones and chuck-it balls have been her favorite thus far) to start the process all over again. Ahsoka enjoys spending time outside, but only if her favorite humans are willing to be out there with her. Her humans are her #1 focus, so she must know where they are at all times. Ahsoka’s foster home has a pack of 5 resident dogs. She has gotten along wonderfully with every dog in the home, ranging from 20 – 80 lbs and both males and a female. Although she has done well with all the dogs in the home, she has picked her favorite furry friend to be the large 37 lb Frenchie. She will try multiple times a day to engage him in play, although he has not reciprocated yet, she is not discouraged and continues to try. Ahsoka has proven to be very happy, content, and resilient while in her foster home. The sounds of a typical home (toilet flush, refrigerator opening, power tools….) were totally new to her, so she did startle easily in the beginning, but after hearing the new sounds she quickly got comfortable and brave enough to continue to explore every inch of the home. So far Ahsoka has not actively played with any of the resident furry pack, although the smaller 20 lb Frenchie has engaged her and she’s returned interest in a soft paw to the face and sleeping in the same dog bed with him. Ahsoka is very motivated by human attention, even more so than treats, so she’s been able to accomplish some great things with simple love and encouragement. Ahsoka is very nimble for her size. She topped the scales at 76 lbs when she entered rescue and has successfully lost 5 lbs in one short month. She can move very quickly for a “big gal”, but in typical English bulldog style she’s ready for a good nap immediately following any activity. Ahsoka hasn’t found a furry friend or human that she hasn’t adored, and because she’s so balanced other dogs have reacted very positively to her. She was able to attend a very busy SNAFU event, with a lot of dogs and people after only one week in rescue, which is miraculous! She really is an overall content girl that goes with the flow, beats to her drum, and can make those that love her most feel equally loved in return. She can fit right into a pack and has done very well with all 5 in her foster pack, including the other female English bulldog who is the pack leader. Ahsoka is a goofy and clumsy social butterfly, so she’ll need at least one furry brother or sister in her forever family to play and snuggle with and hopefully help her exercise and continue to lose her extra pounds. Ahsoka is experiencing a big transition and will need proper leadership and guidance to know what is expected in her adoptive home. She is smart, a fast learner, and is VERY motivated by human encouragement, so we know Ahsoka will be quick to adapt to yet another new home with the proper leadership! She will try to use her weight to forcefully get close to her favorite human, so strong and consistent guidance will be needed to remind her of the rules. Ahsoka seems to get along well with every human (big or small) as she is happiest when she is around her people. She is very gentle with the children who visit her foster home (6 & 4 yrs) offering them lots of love. Her English bulldog grunts and snorts were a little scary to them at first, but they quickly learned that she was very sweet and only wanted their love. She has quickly become a favorite to all visitors in her foster home. Her foster family believes she would be best in a home with at least one other balanced furry family members to snuggle and play with. As with all of our dogs, we recommend slow introductions between dogs and supervision around children when introducing a new dog in your home to make sure both she and they are kept safe.
Ahsoka has caught on very quickly with potty training. In true bulldog form she does take a little encouragement to go outside, but since she craves human touch it’s easy to get her to follow you outside. She knows if she goes potty quickly that she gets to go back inside to her bed, so she’s super speedy! She has been accident free for the past week in her foster home. Her foster mom does work from home, so she goes out ever few hours throughout the day, which has helped her learn that the right place to potty is outside. She is not a fan of the crate, but the great news is she’s an angel to sleep the night away on her dog bed. She does wear a diaper overnight as a precaution, but it has been dry consistently for the past week. As with all of our dogs, any adopter will need to be able to and willing to offer her a consistent schedule and possibly work with her on a signal for potty. When her family happens to be away from the home, she is trusted to roam the house, which typically means sleeping on dog bed. We think since Ahsoka loves to cuddle and snuggle her people, that she would love to share a bed with her adoptive family once she’s fully potty trained and can be trusted. She has already shown interest in getting into the family bed, but hasn’t been brave enough to jump in. Since she is a large girl, she may be more comfortable in her own dog bed in the family bedroom.
Medically, Ahsoka seems to be in good health! She does have some more weight to lose, so strict management of her feedings will be best for her overall health long-term. She is a big girl, who will never be petite, but she could lose an additional 10-15 lbs, making it much easier for her to get around and have less weight on her joints; she should remain on a daily, good quality joint supplement. She also has shown signs of slight allergies, so she’s been getting a daily allergy pill. She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, had a dental (6 teeth were pulled), microchipped, heartworm tested and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!
Ahsoka would do great in most types of homes, although she does not like steps much. A home with a fenced yard would be ideal for Ahsoka, as she is inquisitive about roaming the yard, but would do ok without a yard since she doesn’t venture far from her trusted humans. Ahsoka just wants to be anywhere and everywhere her people are and would love a mom/dad that will allow morning kisses, couch time, nap time and cuddle time. She just really loves all people that will offer her attention. She would be a good candidate for going to the office if her family is able to train her to climb a ramp into their vehicle. She would love a part-time or full-time work-from-home or stay-at-home family member if that’s a possibility. She is also fine to nap the day away but would need a mid-day potty break to avoid accidents. Truly, Ahsoka is just looking for a family who will love and care for her and wants a shadow following them around 24/7.

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
