Adaline’s Story

Adaline came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.

Adaline is a sweet, gentle, laidback, calm, lazy little Frenchie girl who has small bouts of excitement and energy.  When she first arrived in rescue she was very scared; she is making great strides daily as her confidence is growing VERY quickly. She enjoys a good Benebone when the mood strikes her.  Adaline’s happy place is in the presence of her people requesting her precious head scratched and her tummy rubbed.  Adaline will adorbaly show her belly to any open hand and greaciouly accepts the love and attention offered.  She has a silly habit of hoarding!  Oh yes, Adaline will take all the toys and bring them into her crate. She will have so many that she will bury herself in it and cannot be seen!  It really is quite the picture!  She adores her toys so much and thet give her such comfort and joy.  Adaline thinks they are all hers! Her hoarding behavior was properly worked on her is foster home and Adaline took to the correction well! Her foster family can easily remove any toy without issue and the resident pups can now take what they choose from her and walk away with their item. Adaline is offered only a few toys at a time to play with so she doesn’t pick up this habit again.  She is a bit timid around abrupt, loud, and fast noises.  If a random sound in the background surfaces when Adaline is gathering her favorite items, enjoying a chew bone, or relaxing next to her foster family she will immediately retreat to her safe spot; her X-pen.  Adaline is unsure of unknown, unfamiliar loud noises, new situations, new people, and unfamiliar items that may be lying around the foster home. BUT she will stop at nothing to run with her furry friends if they are barking and running down the hall!! Adaline is making such great improvements everyday and it has been such a comforting journey watching this little sweetie pie enjoy the joys of pet life.  She needs a patient, low-key/calm, and understanding family that can help her build confidence in a new environment.  She will also need a family who is willing to spend extra time with her, provide the space she requires, offer her ongoing patience, and introduce her slowly to new things to build her confidence.  She has habit of eating the outdoor mulch and should always be supervised and never left unattended as she is learning what is and isn’t an acceptable item to eat.  Adaline currently lives with several furry foster siblings and will occasionally interact with them.  She will watch the movements of her furry friends through her X-pen and will even join the pack when it is time to go outside.  Her time spent in her X-pen is decreasing daily as she wants to spend more time exploring the house and even using the ramp to the human bed for a cuddle!  Her confidence is growing and she is finding her place in the pack; way to go Adaline!  Recently, Adaline has started to engage her furry pals in some play.  She would still rather chill on a cozy blanket next to her lvoving foster family (with her favorite stuffed pig in tow of course) but those little improvements are BIG for her.  Adaline is experiencing a big change and because of that, she needs consistent leadership, and positive reinforcement to help her learn proper dog manners in her adoptive home.  She seems to get along well with every human she meets; she has a very loving and gentle disposition.  Adaline is shy at first but can easily be won over with some pets and belly rubs.  We think she would do best in a home that has dog-savvy, calm, gentle, respectful children 10 years or older.  Slow introductions and supervision around children are a must to be sure they and she are kept safe. Adaline can peacefully coexist with her furry pals.  She would do well in a home with another calm, laid-back dog that could help her continue to learn how to be a pet!  Adaline would also do okay as an only pet as long as she was not left alone for long hours.

Adaline’s foster family happily reports she is 95% potty trained when kept on a consistent schedule.  She will have an occasional accident but they are few and far between; she doesn’t like the cold!  Her adoptive family must be willing to continue to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule to help with her continued potty training success in her new home.  Adaline is fully crate-trained but doesn’t choose her crate much.  She rather would and often seeks the comfort of her safe space when feeling insecure; her X-pen (those occasions are few and far between).  For her safety, we recommend that she be offered a comfy and secure space that she can easily retreat to when needed.  She does not know danger and is still learning what is expected of her inside the home.

Medically, Adaline seems to be in good health. She has been spayed, had a dental, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian. Adaline needs to lose a few additional LBS; a healthy diet is necessary to help her achieve her goal!

Adaline would be happiest in a house with a fenced yard (as opposed to a multiple-floor, shared walled apartment-style dwelling with no yard) due to her skittish nature, and her inability to proficiently walk on a leash for her ongoing safety.  She can successfully do a few stairs but would need a little work if her adoptive home had large staircases.  Ideally, Adaline is searching for a family that has the time and energy to help her acclimate to pet life.  She adores belly rubs (LOTS of belly rubs), stuffed toys, and a warm place to nap.  We think she’d eventually love an office environment if she had a safe space to easily retreat to.  Adaline would just need a little additional training and confidence if entering a bustling workspace.  Cannot take her to the office? That’s okay!  Adaline is completely happy sleeping part of the day away in her X-pen as long as her people aren’t gone long hours.   Again, Adaline is still learning the ways of pet life, and learning to trust, and needs a calm family to help build her confidence.  Adaline would love a family that can offer her companionship, unlimited pets, belly rubs, and scratchies.  This little butterball is such a joy!  Adaline is a great candidate for a car ride!  She loves to sit in her car seat, and soak up the scenery knowing she is enjoying the time with her people which can be noticed from the sweet look in her eyes.

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
