Samuel’s Story
Samuel came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release who dropped him off at a shelter due to his defect. The shelter wanted him to find a breed specific rescue to help be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.
Samuel may be past the tiny-puppy stage, but his personality is still bursting with fun, charm, and joie de vivre. This outgoing, happy-go-lucky French Bulldog is full of playful energy and enthusiasm, always ready to turn an ordinary moment into something entertaining. Most days, you’ll find Samuel bouncing around the house, enthusiastically wrestling with his dog friends or happily occupying himself nearby. He has a contagious zest for life that keeps everyone smiling.
One of Samuel’s standout qualities is his fantastic “on/off switch.” He can be delightfully active and silly when it’s playtime, but when the excitement winds down, he settles beautifully. Samuel is perfectly capable of relaxing and snoozing—even in busy or social environments like meet-and-greets or outings—making him a wonderfully adaptable companion.
Samuel truly shines when he’s around other dogs. Wrestling, romping, and playful interaction are his absolute favorite things, and he’s never met a dog he didn’t want to befriend. Big or small, Samuel is eager to engage and is often the one trying to get the party started. Because of this, he would thrive in a home with a friendly canine sibling who enjoys play and can keep up with his fun-loving nature. That said, Samuel does best with a bit of structure: he needs to be separated during mealtimes, as he tends to finish his own food quickly and then attempt to sample everyone else’s. He has also become possessive with Nylabones and similar chew items, so these should be enjoyed solo rather than around other dogs.
Humans are just as special to Samuel as his furry friends. He absolutely adores people and greets everyone like an old friend. He does well with children, though a home with dog-savvy kids who understand gentle handling and boundaries would be ideal. Due to his playful and sometimes rambunctious nature, supervision during interactions with kids and pets is important to keep playtime safe and positive for everyone.
Samuel is what his foster lovingly calls a “diaper baby.” He is a happy, healthy boy who happens to be both fecal and urine incontinent, so he wears diapers that need to be changed a few times a day. This quickly becomes a simple, manageable routine, and Samuel takes it all completely in stride. Wearing diapers doesn’t slow him down one bit—he plays, explores, and enjoys life just like any other dog. His future family should be comfortable providing this extra care, knowing that Samuel’s affectionate heart and joyful personality make it more than worthwhile.
When the day winds down, Samuel is all about comfort and closeness. He loves curling up for a cozy nap, especially on a big human bed where he can feel safe, secure, and deeply loved. Samuel is the perfect blend of playful entertainer and cuddly companion—ready to make you laugh during the day and snuggle close once he’s worn himself out.
Sammie is urine and fecal incontinent and is unable to tell when he needs to urinate or defecate due to an assumed congenital defect. He will need an adoptive family that is able and willing to express his bladder and change his diapers for the rest of his life. His adoptive family should have some experience or education with incontinent dogs and be prepared for the additional care that comes along with his situation. Sammie does VERY WELL with his diaper routine and responds well when it is time to change his diaper. Currently, his foster family uses a combination of disposable toddler diapers, washable dog diapers, and belly bands. Because he is more susceptible to UTIs, keeping him clean and dry is imperative to ensure he doesn’t encounter additional infections. Sammie doesn’t spend time in a crate but if needed he could adapt. He is offered a small dog safe space in his foster home when his family happens to leave them home as it is the best option to keep him secured for easy clean up if he leaks. For his safety, we recommend that he is kept in a similar safe area when his humans are away from the home and/or he is left unsupervised, so he is safe and secure. He does not know danger and is still learning what is expected of him inside the home. Sammie does sleep in a human bed at night and requests that his adoptive family offer him this same luxury.
Medically, Sammie is in good health other than his incontinence. He does benefit from manual expression several times a day to keep UTIs at bay. He is also fed a raw diet; this helps keep his bowel movements at manageable sizes and quantities. As long as he is kept clean to prevent any infections, he should be able to live a pretty normal life. He is offered a daily cranberry supplement and probiotic to assist in keeping UTIs away. Sammie has been neutered, and updated on vaccinations, deworming, and heartworm prevention. He is microchipped and has been given the all clear for adoption by our veterinarian!
Sammie would be a wonderful addition to just about any family who’s willing to establish a simple, consistent routine—because once that’s in place, he truly thrives. As long as he stays on his prescribed diet and supplements and has a healthy outlet for his playful energy, Sammie is an easy, joyful companion. He’s fantastic with stairs, so homes with multiple levels are no problem at all for this confident little guy.
A fenced yard is not required for Sammie’s adoption, though it would be a lovely bonus. Having a secure outdoor space allows him to safely zoom around and enjoy some blissful diaper-free sunshine—something he absolutely adores. Daily walks are another favorite of his; Sammie loves being outside, soaking up the sun, and proudly showing off his adorable little buns.
Caring for a diaper dog might sound intimidating, but Sammie makes it genuinely easy. He is calm, compliant, and unfazed during diaper changes and getting dressed (he wears a cozy onesie to keep everything secure). His care quickly becomes second nature, and his foster family reports that it’s simply part of the routine—no stress, no fuss. Sammie does best in a home where his people aren’t regularly away for more than four hours at a time, or where someone can pop home for a quick midday diaper change. If his family works outside the home, Sammie would be thrilled to tag along once he’s fully trained—he loves car rides and has never met a stranger he didn’t want to charm.
An active, inclusive family would be Sammie’s dream come true. He’d happily join you at kids’ sporting events, outings, or even quick errands—he’s the kind of sidekick who makes every trip more fun. And if coming to work isn’t an option? No worries at all. Sammie is perfectly content snoozing the day away in his safe space, especially if he has a furry friend nearby, a soft blanket, a favorite chew, and a planned midday diaper change.
Sammie’s foster family describes him as unbelievably sweet, resilient, and full of love. He’s a champion cuddler, an enthusiastic playmate, and an expert napper. Equal parts goofy and endearing, Sammie has a way of stealing hearts without even trying—once you know him, it’s impossible not to adore him.
This special boy is searching for a forever family who will embrace his playful spirit, affectionate nature, and simple diaper routine with patience and love. Sammie has so much joy to give and is ready to thrive in a home where he’s included, cherished, and celebrated for the incredible little dog he is. 💙

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
