Loretta’s Story
Loretta came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Meet Loretta — lovingly known as Lolo — a gentle, thoughtful French Bulldog with a tender heart and a quiet way of loving.
Lolo is a 6-year-old girl who has come a long way in foster care, learning what it means to feel safe, understood, and unhurried. She’s not a dog who dives headfirst into affection or chaos. Instead, she takes her time, watching the world carefully before deciding where she belongs — and when she does, her loyalty is steady and sincere.
Loretta thrives in a calm, low-activity home where days are predictable and energy stays soft. Busy households, frequent visitors, or lots of movement can make her anxious, so she would do best in a home without small children. Older, respectful children may be okay, but slow, thoughtful introductions to both children and other dogs are a must to ensure the comfort and safety of everyone involved. Lolo needs the chance to process at her own pace, and when given that grace, she settles beautifully.
She’s more of an observer than a participant — content to watch rather than jump into the action. With other dogs, she prefers calm companions and benefits greatly from gradual introductions and clear boundaries. She would be happiest as the only dog or alongside another gentle, low-key pup who respects her space.
Loretta may never be a lap dog (but recently she is showing signs she may enjoy that), but her affection shows up in quieter ways: choosing to rest nearby, relaxing a little more each day, and trusting you enough to share her space. These small moments speak volumes about her heart.
Her ideal adopter is patient, emotionally intuitive, and appreciative of the subtle kind of love — someone who understands that the deepest bonds are built slowly, with consistency and kindness. If you value peaceful evenings, routine, and the beauty of earning trust one gentle step at a time, Lolo will reward you with a companionship that is calm, meaningful, and deeply special. 🖤🐾
Loretta is fully potty trained and does best when she has a predictable daily routine. She thrives on structure, knowing what comes next, and that consistency helps her feel calm and secure in her environment. With a steady schedule and clear expectations, Lolo does very well and takes pride in her routine.
She is crate trained and comfortable being crated when needed. Her crate or designated safe space gives her a sense of security, especially if her humans are away for longer periods. Loretta has also done well roaming freely in the home when supervised, but she is still learning the rules of indoor life and may occasionally chew on items that aren’t meant for her. Because of this, crating or setting up a dog-safe space when she’s unsupervised is recommended for her safety and success.
Lolo is extremely food motivated, which makes continued training and reinforcement straightforward and rewarding. She especially enjoys chewing on bones and antlers and loves settling in for cozy naps in a warm, comfortable dog bed. At night, she prefers sleeping in a plush bed near her humans, where their presence helps her feel relaxed and secure.
With ongoing routine, gentle guidance, and a calm home environment, Loretta continues to thrive. She’s a dog who feels most confident when her world is predictable — and in a home that maintains that rhythm, she’ll remain the steady, well-mannered, quietly devoted companion she’s meant to be.
Medically, Loretta seems to be in great health. She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian. Loretta occasionally will urp; an elevated bowl and a daily Pepcid AC help keeps these moments few and far between.
Loretta is a sensitive, tender-hearted girl who will truly shine in a calm, predictable home where life moves at an unhurried, gentle pace. She’s a thoughtful observer of the world, taking everything in before deciding she feels safe — and when she does, her confidence grows beautifully.
A house setting is ideal for Loretta. Sudden noises and unfamiliar sounds can make her anxious, and she tends to bark when startled, which makes apartment living or a share-walled townhome a challenge for her. Lolo is a champ at going up and down stairs; a multi-level home or a single-story home would both be ideal for her!
Loretta enjoys being outside and benefits from having a yard where she can take relaxed potty breaks and soak in the fresh air at her own pace. A fenced yard is strongly recommended for her safety and peace of mind. While she’s not a high-energy dog, outdoor time helps her decompress and feel grounded. She’s not one to bolt into play, but rather to quietly explore and observe her surroundings.
When it comes to other dogs, Loretta does best with calm, well-balanced canine companions who respect her space and move through life gently. She isn’t interested in roughhousing or high-energy playmates — slow, steady, and polite is much more her style. With proper, gradual introductions, she can coexist beautifully with another mellow dog who can help model confidence and routine. She has not been tested with cats, and she has shown a strong interest in chickens (and not in a good way!), so her forever home should be poultry-free.
Loretta is not a fan of car rides and becomes nervous in new environments, but with patience, reassurance, and gradual exposure, she does settle. She needs time to process change, and once she understands that she’s safe, she can relax and enjoy simply being near her people.
A quiet, low-energy household is essential for Loretta’s success. She does best with calm adults or older, respectful teens who understand gentle voices, slow movements, and the importance of giving her space when she needs it. Loud environments, constant activity, or frequent visitors can overwhelm her, so a peaceful home will allow her to continue building trust at her own pace.
Loretta needs a patient, emotionally intuitive family willing to meet her where she is. She may never be a traditional lap dog, but she shows love in her own beautiful ways — with soft eye contact, choosing to stay close, and those full-body booty wiggles that say more than cuddles ever could. Her loyalty runs deep once trust is established.
She is a soft soul who requires patience, love, guidance, and trust — and in return, she will slowly, sweetly wiggle her way into your heart. If you believe the best bonds are built gently and you’re willing to move at her pace, Loretta will be an incredibly rewarding companion.

disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
