Laurel’s Story

Laurel came into the SNAFU Rescue via a breeder release. Her breeder wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.

Laurel is a sweet, calm, chill, slightly shy, and laid-back little Frenchie girl that loves to be cuddled and snuggled.  She is slightly reserved by nature but has shown calm confidence from day one and is very quick to cuddle her trusted person.  Laurel will showcase her social side when she is comfortable by following all the humans and politely “demanding” attention!  She seeks human touch and prefers to be everywhere and anywhere her foster family is.  Laurel is an equal opportunity attention seeker; if she sees a hand that isn’t occupied she DEMANDS it becomes busy petting her!  She also gravitates towards an open lap and will gingerly plop right in it expecting extra love and attention. Laurel is a stage 5 clinger!  She doesn’t have bursts of energy and excitement but is very alert and actively follows the humans in the home around. Nap time is her favorite time! She will lay on her favorite dog bed (near her human of course) but as soon as her favorite human heads toward the couch Laurel is up and moving to find her place next to them. There is not a couch or lap that she won’t lay on during her many daily naps or even when tuning into her favorite TV shows.  Laurel often enjoys a nibble on her beloved nylabones. She has a bit of a mischievous side and will also randomly find items that she is not supposed to be nibbling on (phone cords, shoes, wood corners, etc); she is easily redirected.  Laurel is an overall balanced Frenchie girl. She will follow her furry pack around, so she is sure to not miss anything important going on, but she will politely let them be rambunctious and watch from the sidelines. When Laurel first arrived at the rescue, she was calm and subdued but searched for human contact right away. She lived most of her life in a commercial breeding kennel and is slowly learning to live her life as a cherished pet, but rest assured she’s mastering it VERY quickly.  Although she is slowly gaining confidence and becoming more comfortable every day, it is important to remember that she is dealing with a big transition and as such will need a patient and understanding family.  She currently lives with a few furry foster siblings equal to her size.  She gets along well with all her furry friends. She likes to follow their lead to investigate and is comfortable being next to them for snuggle time on their human’s lap.  Laurel would do well with a furry pal to help her learn the ways of pet life but would also be fine as an only pet if her furever family makes sure she continues to be socialized with other dogs!  She is still learning the ways of pet life! She loves to be picked up and cuddled. She will lean her entire body into you and look at you with the most adoring and loving stare. As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs in the household are a must.  She has not been around smaller children but given her overall timid nature, school-aged children who are gentle, calm, and dog-savvy would be okay for her. Laurel would love to have older human siblings in her furever home, and even more, hands to pet her with, but she would do well in a home without children as well. As with all of our dogs, slow introductions to other dogs and children in the household are a must and she should always be supervised to make sure she and they are kept safe.

Laurel’s foster family happily reports she is fully potty trained!  She made fast progress with a strict and routine outside schedule. It has helped her to have other furry friends for her to follow and mimic their outside behaviors.  Her adoptive family will need to be patient, willing, and able to keep her on a regular and consistent schedule for her continued potty-training success.  Laurel is not a fan of her crate at all!  She has Houdini’d out of a metal crate and has since been safe and secure in a smaller plastic crate with a blanket over it to reduce her stress.  Laurel should NEVER be crated while her humans are home as it would cause her great distress.  Since Laurel is a master snuggler, we know she would love to share her human bed at night. For her safety, we recommend a similar arrangement when her humans are away from the home and/or when she is left unsupervised, so she is safe and secure while no one is at home. Laurel does not know danger and is still learning how to be a pet.

Medically, Laurel seems to be in great health. She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given the okay to adopt by our veterinarian.  She does suffer from those pesky Frenchie allergies and would benefit from a daily allergy pill in addition to cytopoint injections during high allergy months.

Laurel is very adaptable, and we think she would do well in almost any type of home, but would do best in a house with a fenced yard since she is such an explorer and does not know danger (she is affectionately called Laurel the explorer). She is a champ with the stairs so a multi-level home would be okay for her.  A home with shared walls is not ideal as Laurel can share her displeasure verbally when she is in her crate.   Part-time or full-time work-from-home or a stay-at-home parent? Laurel would absolutely love that!  She also would be a great candidate to take to the office as she truly never wants to be away from her people.  She is looking for a patient family to call her very own, one that is willing to work with her to learn how to “pet”, one with an overall calm, quiet lifestyle, and one that is home often to offer her unlimited snuggles. Laurel loves nothing more than to be included in any and all human activities; she is a great ride-along companion as well and has been very relaxed on car rides! She is such a sweet girl that desires and deserves lots of love and attention!

disclaimer

Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.

We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.

We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.

IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.

ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.

If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
