Freddy’s Story
Freedy came into the SNAFU Rescue via a private party. His prior owner wanted him to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of his years being a spoiled pet.
Freddy is the kind of Frenchie who makes himself right at home in your heart without even trying. This super chill, incredibly sweet boy is happiest when he’s close to his people or snuggled up with his furry friends. He absolutely loves attention and isn’t shy about asking for it—whether that means giving you little paw taps or rolling onto his belly to show you just how much he loves you. Freddy is a laid-back, affectionate guy who loves the simple things in life: cuddling, hanging out with his furry friends, eating yummy food, and playing.
Now that Freddy has completed his heartworm treatment and is finally getting to enjoy more of the fun things he’s been missing, his playful side is really starting to emerge. He LOVES bones and has discovered that stuffed toys are especially fun—although his version of playing sometimes involves completely dismantling them! His family will want to supervise him with stuffies to make sure he doesn’t swallow pieces. Faux antler-style bones are another favorite, and he’s always happy to have something fun to chew.
Freddy absolutely loves other dogs and enjoys having furry friends around. Big, small, male, female—it truly doesn’t matter to him. He could happily be an only dog if his humans are home frequently and able to give him plenty of companionship, or he would love being part of a pack. He is generally very patient with other dogs when it comes to food, attention, and everyday interactions. The one exception is that he may occasionally guard a favorite toy from another dog. This has been limited to toys, and when calmly cued to move away, Freddy does so without issue. He has never shown aggression toward a person or cat, and this is the only situation in which he has shown any guarding behavior toward another dog. As he is able to enjoy more normal play following his medical treatments, we expect he’ll have more opportunities to learn appropriate toy-sharing and dog-to-dog play.
Freddy is also wonderfully uninterested in cats. He has lived around them and has shown no interest in chasing, bothering, or being aggressive toward them. He simply seems perfectly happy to let the cats do their thing.
Freddy hasn’t had much opportunity to interact with children. However, his naturally sweet, gentle, and incredibly chill personality makes us feel he could potentially do well in a home with children of any age, provided interactions are supervised and respectful. Freddy can occasionally jump up on people, particularly when someone is eating something delicious or when another dog is getting attention and Freddy decides he has been tragically overlooked. Thankfully, he responds well when cued to stop and redirect.
Because Freddy has spent so much of his recent life going through various medical treatments, he hasn’t had many opportunities for walks, vigorous play, or adventures. That makes his reaction to the harness and leash especially adorable—he gets SO excited when he sees them! He’s clearly ready to discover the world now that he can do more, and we think walks, sniffy adventures, and gradually increasing playtime will quickly become some of his favorite things. His family will simply need to follow veterinary guidance and let his activity increase gradually as he rebuilds his endurance.
Freddy could be a wonderful fit for a first-time French Bulldog family, as long as they understand the breed’s unique needs. Like all Frenchies, he’ll need a family that is mindful of heat and humidity, avoids overexertion, maintains a healthy weight, and is thoughtful about jumping off furniture and other activities that can put unnecessary stress on his body. After having his activity limited during treatment, he’ll need to build his endurance gradually rather than jumping straight into being an athlete.
At the end of the day, Freddy is simply a sweet, affectionate, goofy little guy who wants to be loved, included, and close to his people. He’s a cuddle bug, a dog-loving companion, a food enthusiast, a bone chewer, and a stuffie destroyer who is finally ready to enjoy the life he’s been waiting for. Whether he’s curled up beside his favorite human, snuggled with a furry friend, excitedly gearing up for a walk, or proudly carrying around a toy he intends to eventually murder, Freddy has an incredibly lovable spirit. He’s ready for a family who will give him the companionship, patience, structure, and love he deserves—and he’ll repay them with endless cuddles, laughs, and plenty of Frenchie love.
Freddy has been an absolute rock star when it comes to potty training. He has not had a single accident since arriving in foster care—even while taking various medications throughout his medical treatments. He has proven himself to be very flexible with his potty routine and can comfortably potty either on a leash or in a fenced yard, making him an easy guy to accommodate in different types of homes. As with any dog transitioning into a new environment, keeping him on a consistent schedule will help set him up for continued success, but Freddy has already shown that he understands his potty routine beautifully.
Freddy is also crate trained and has made wonderful progress with his comfort level in his crate. It took about four months in his foster home for him to truly settle into enjoying crate time, so his adoptive family should be prepared to give him some patience and time as he adjusts to another new environment. These days, Freddy happily goes into his crate when his foster family leaves the house and does very well while they’re gone. He also sleeps in his crate overnight and is an absolute pro at it! His journey is a great reminder that sometimes Freddy just needs a little time to understand that something new is safe—and once he does, he settles right in.
Medically, Freddy seems to be in good health. Freddy has been neutered, had a BOAS surgery, had a dental with extractions, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, is microchipped, and has been given the ok for adoption by our veterinarian!
Freddy has officially completed his heartworm treatment and is ready to leave that chapter behind him! His family will need to keep him on monthly heartworm prevention for the rest of his life, as consistent prevention is essential to protect him from another heartworm infection and keep him healthy and happy for years to come.
Freddy is an incredibly adaptable little guy who could fit beautifully into just about any type of loving home, as long as one very important thing is present—companionship. This sweet boy thrives on being around his people and furry friends, and a home where he isn’t frequently left alone would be the perfect fit. A work-from-home family, someone who can bring him to the office, a retired household, or a family with another friendly dog would all make Freddy very happy. He’s the kind of dog who simply wants to be included, and honestly, if you’re looking for a sweet little sidekick to take along for patio dinners, errands, or everyday adventures, Freddy is your guy!
Freddy absolutely loves attention from his humans and is always happy to have some furry friends around, too. He would make a fantastic office dog—he’s quiet, affectionate, settles beautifully, and can relax allll day while his people work. He also cues well when redirected, making him an easygoing companion in different environments. He isn’t a big barker, either. Other than some early crate-training protests, Freddy is a pretty quiet guy, although his occasional loud Frenchie breathing may remind you that there is, in fact, a little bulldog in the room!
A fenced yard is always preferred for ongoing safety, but it is not required for Freddy’s adoption. He does wonderfully on a leash and is perfectly happy to potty and explore that way. He also enjoys sniffing around a backyard and would certainly appreciate having one, but he can absolutely thrive without it. If a fully fenced yard isn’t available, a harness and leash will be required any time he is outside. Freddy is an easy guy to get out and about, and he gets SO excited when he sees his harness and leash.
Freddy handles stairs like a champ, both up and down. He has no fear of them and navigates them confidently with normal-looking leg movement. He’s also wonderfully adaptable when it comes to his surroundings and could fit into many different types of homes.
Perhaps the most important thing to know about Freddy is just how easy he is to live with. He’s affectionate without being demanding, playful without being overwhelming, and perfectly happy to settle in beside his people and enjoy the day. He truly just wants to be where his humans are. His only real “flaw” is that when Freddy takes a drink, apparently the water is supposed to stay in his jowls and drip down his throat rather than actually remain in his mouth. So, if you’re willing to provide approximately seven face wipes a day as part of your normal household routine, Freddy would like to remind you that this is a small price to pay for such a wonderful little companion!
Freddy really could be the perfect addition to so many different families. Whether he’s relaxing beside you at the office, joining you for a patio dinner, sniffing around the backyard, enjoying a leisurely walk, cuddling with a furry friend, or simply keeping you company around the house, he’s happiest when he’s part of the action. He’s sweet, social, quiet, adaptable, and incredibly easy to love. Anyone would be lucky to have Freddy—and Freddy would be pretty lucky to have someone who wants a lovable little shadow by their side.
If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Freddy, please submit an adoption application for him today!!
disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
