Bella’s Story
Bella came into the SNAFU Rescue via a private party. Her surrendering family wanted her to be placed in a loving home and spend the rest of her years being a spoiled pet.
Meet Bella — a sweet, playful, wonderfully well-rounded four-year-old Frenchie who has mastered the art of enjoying the best of both worlds. At four years old, Bella is right in that perfect Frenchie sweet spot: she has plenty of playful energy and enthusiasm when it’s time for fun, but she’s equally happy to curl up and snooze for hours when it’s time to relax. With her gentle disposition, friendly nature, and easygoing personality, Bella is the kind of girl who can fit beautifully into a variety of loving homes.
Bella has one very important possession in life — her favorite ball! She absolutely adores it and will proudly parade around the room with her ball tucked in her mouth, showing it off like a treasured prize. She loves chasing it, whether she’s entertaining herself or enjoying the occasional throw from her humans, and one of her favorite places to take her beloved ball is right up onto the couch. There’s something ridiculously cute about watching Bella happily carry her prized possession around as though she has somewhere very important to be.
Her love of play doesn’t stop with her favorite ball. Bella also enjoys soft toys and stuffies, happily chewing on them independently or engaging in a fun game of tag. And if another friendly dog is willing to participate in a little tug-of-war, Bella is absolutely game! She enjoys a good play session and can happily wrestle, tug, and romp for several minutes before everyone settles back down. She has a wonderfully social approach to play and does not escalate aggressively, making her a delightful playmate.
Bella is very friendly with other dogs and genuinely seems to enjoy having furry friends around. Her foster family feels she would ideally do well in a home with another even-tempered dog who could become her buddy for tug-of-war, Frenchie wrestling, playtime, and simply sharing everyday life. That said, Bella could also be perfectly happy as an only dog as long as she receives plenty of love and attention from her humans. She simply wants to be included and have someone to share her happy little life with.
Bella is also wonderfully respectful of cats. She currently lives with resident cats and shows very little interest in them beyond the occasional polite sniff. She does not chase them and doesn’t seem particularly interested in their litter box either — a lovely quality for a Frenchie sharing a home with feline siblings.
While Bella has not lived with young children in her foster home, her sweet, friendly temperament suggests she could do well with respectful children. As with any dog, interactions should be thoughtfully supervised, with both children and Bella guided toward appropriate boundaries and gentle interaction. With that structure in place, Bella’s easygoing personality could make her a wonderful family companion.
Another terrific quality Bella brings to the table is how responsive she is to her humans. She has excellent recall and readily responds to common obedience cues such as “sit,” “leave it,” and “off.” She is smart, attentive, and willing to listen, which makes communicating with her refreshingly easy and gives her family a great foundation to continue building upon.
Bella is also a lovely choice for someone who may be newer to the world of short-nosed breeds. She has such a sweet, approachable disposition that she could be a wonderful introduction to Frenchie life, provided her adopters have taken the time to research the breed and understand the unique health considerations and risks that come with those adorable smooshed faces. She doesn’t require someone to already be a Frenchie expert — just someone committed to becoming a knowledgeable and responsible one.
Bella has been wonderfully reliable with her potty training and has had no accidents in her foster home. She hasn’t had to learn to signal to her humans yet and any adopter must work on a signal for potty! In addition, one should plan for frequent, regularly scheduled potty breaks along with patience and praise as Bella learns to signal and adjusts to her new routine.
Crate training is still a work in progress. Bella is not a fan of being crated, especially overnight, and currently does best with the freedom to snooze on a dog bed or the couch. She isn’t untrainable, though, and with patience, short positive crate sessions, high-value treats, and plenty of praise, she may learn to view her crate as a safe and comfortable place. 🐾
Medically, Bella seems to be in good health! She has been spayed, updated on vaccinations/dewormings, heartworm tested, microchipped, and has been given a clean bill of health by our veterinarian!
Bella has a few medical items to monitor, including pigmentation in her left eye, low-grade bilateral luxating patellas, and a galloping heart arrhythmia. None currently require treatment, but ongoing veterinary monitoring is recommended, as her knees may contribute to future arthritis and joint issues and the arrhythmia could potentially progress over time. Daily fish oil and a high-quality joint supplement are important for supporting her ongoing joint health.
Bella would thrive in a loving, low-key to moderately active home where she can enjoy plenty of quality time with her people without needing a high-intensity lifestyle. She does especially well with routine and consistent attention, so a home where someone is around regularly, or can check in during the day, would suit her beautifully. A securely fenced yard with direct, step-free access would be ideal for potty breaks and outdoor time, and while Bella handles stairs currently, minimizing them is important given her luxating patella. She would do well with adults and respectful children, and would ideally have another calm, even-tempered dog to keep her company, though she could also be happy as an only dog with plenty of human attention.
Bella is an incredibly loving and loyal little shadow. She greets her people each morning with happy booty wiggles, will gently tap you with her paw when she wants attention, and loves couch cuddles. She’s also perfectly content to snooze independently on the couch, her dog bed, or the floor. If you’re heading into the bathroom or shower, don’t be surprised to find Bella patiently waiting outside — she simply likes knowing where her people are.
She’s also a great car rider and, while she can be a little timid at the vet, she is very sweet and submissive and should acclimate well with a consistent routine. Bella absolutely loves men and forms wonderfully strong bonds with her people.
One thing adopters should be prepared for is Bella’s very loud Frenchie bark! She’s protective of her home and family, basically a built-in security system, and takes the job seriously. No one — human or dog — gets near an entrance without Bella sounding the alarm loud enough to be heard a block away! She may even dash outside to make sure the message is delivered in person.
With her affectionate personality, loyal heart, playful side, and wonderfully adaptable nature, Bella would make a lovely companion for a family looking for a sweet Frenchie who simply wants to be included in everyday life. 🐾💕

If you feel like your family might be the perfect forever home for Bella, please submit an adoption application for her today!!
disclaimer
Please note that it will likely be at *least* a 3–4 week minimum before you hear back from us after submitting an adoption application.
We typically accept for new applications for a period of 7 days or until 20 applications have been received for any newly available dog. After that time period, the applications are sent on to the foster family for review and that usually takes from at *least* a few days to a week to sort through the applications, etc. Most of our dogs receive several applications so this process does take some time, especially on dogs who are more popular for one reason or another.
We do require phone interviews to be conducted between the foster family and potential adopters, vet reference checks and a home visit to be conducted for all potential adopters, if they are selected as the top choice applicant, which will also take time to complete. That being said, we do always let our applicants know if they are chosen or not.
IF you happen to not be chosen, please don’t feel discouraged as, again, we usually get several applications for each dog, and sometimes it can be very difficult to choose just one adopter. In those cases, we usually offer to keep the applications for adoption on file for any future dogs that come into our rescue.
ALL adopters are required to come and pick up their adopted dogs in person from the dog’s foster home (we do not ship any of our dogs). Please have road/driving transport plans in place to pick up an adopted dog before you apply! While we are not against adopters flying a foster dog in cabin on a commercial flight, please keep in mind that many are not good candidates for flying due to size and/or being a brachycephalic/short nosed breed.
If an adopter cannot keep one of our grads, for any reason at all, at ANY point in time, they *must* be willing and able to return their adopted dog to his/her original foster home, despite distance and any costs that would be required to do so.
SNAFU Rescue is a 501(c)(3) tax deductible non-profit organization that rescues, rehabilitates, and rehomes all short-nosed breeds in need.
